Microsoft Case Study: The eAr Academy Microsoft 365 Cloud Migration

About the Customer

The eAr Academy is a fully digital, online music school, offering curriculum-based courses that incorporate practical and philosophical elements of learning music.

The eAr Academy’s philosophy is about enriching people’s lives by sharing the joy of music. They accomplish this by elevating the quality of music education.

Their entire approach is student-centric, and the courses are designed to be accessible and enjoyable, encompassing the magic of music.

The Challenge

As a fully digital school delivering lessons through an online LMS, the eAr Academy needed to ensure that its staff had a safe and secure environment in which to communicate, collaborate and share.

The eAr Academy approached Silicon Overdrive to assist them in building a new Learning Management System (LMS), and they wanted to migrate their platform to AWS.

The eAr Academy also needed a solution for their emails as they were using an older protocol, POP3, designed initially to work on only one computer. This method was vastly restrictive and insecure.

The Solution

After a technical assessment was done at the client site, the Silicon Overdrive Technical team migrated 13 users to Microsoft 365 for Business within 24 hours. Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, were set up on each user’s profile.

The team assisted with the migration of POP3 mailboxes to Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online). One of the features included in the Microsoft 365 package is the ability to host the client’s email accounts in the cloud. This allows them access to their emails across multiple devices rather than on a single computer, as with POP3.

Emails are also protected from email threats like phishing and malware with the platform’s built-in defence and spam filtering with the added Defender included with their Standard Licenses.

Silicon Overdrive created Sites/Folders and Permissions for SharePoint, allowing the client and staff easy and secure access to shared documents.

The Outcome

Silicon Overdrive successfully migrated the eAr Academy to Microsoft 365. The client now fully utilizes Exchange Online for secure, reliable, unrestrictive emails and SharePoint Online for safe and simple file sharing.

With their emails and company resources secured on the cloud, users can access their important files from any device, ensuring optimised use of time and increased productivity.
