Achievement Awards Group (AAG) needed to build a Data Hub platform for its business operations in the AWS Cape Town Region due to data sovereignty and compliance regulations. AAG required a scalable, secure, and best practice architected solution that could support extensive data processing and storage needs.
Additionally, Achievement Awards Group needed to consolidate its existing AWS accounts under a single AWS Control Tower Landing Zone to streamline management and improve governance.
Furthermore, establishing a reliable network connection was essential, prompting the use of a VPN to ensure secure and efficient access to a central Transit/Network Account. This connectivity was crucial for maintaining seamless data flow and operational efficiency across the organization.
Achievement Awards Group approached Silicon Overdrive to address the challenges and architect a solution to align with AWS best practices.
Silicon Overdrive set up a base AWS Control Tower Landing Zone configuration. This foundational setup included applying additional base security configurations, according to best practices, across the Landing Zone AWS base accounts. These configurations were implemented in the Audit Account, Log Archive Account, and Master Account. By ensuring that these key accounts adhered to stringent security protocols, Achievement Awards Group was able to establish a robust and secure environment for its operations, facilitating the secure management and storage of data across its AWS infrastructure.
To further enhance security and manageability of AAG’s Data Lab account, Silicon Overdrive enrolled this account into the Control Tower. This new account was configured with additional base security measures, following AWS best practices, to ensure a secure environment. Subsequently, the Data Lab environment was deployed, including all necessary AWS services, to support Achievement Awards Group’s data processing and analytical needs. This setup provided a controlled and secure environment for experimentation and development within the Data Hub platform.
By deploying the Data Hub in the AWS Cape Town Region, Silicon Overdrive ensured data compliance with POPIA, improved operations, and streamlined decision-making.
During the deployment phase, Silicon Overdrive also created and enrolled a Networking AWS account into Control Tower, ensuring it adhered to best practice security configurations. This step established a secure and efficient networking environment which could be used by the VPN to securely access the other environments.
Similarly, both production and development AWS accounts were created and enrolled into Control Tower. Each account received additional security configurations to align with best practices. Comprehensive risk assessments were conducted for both production and development accounts to identify and remediate any deviations from best practice standards, ensuring robust and secure environments for production and development activities.
Silicon Overdrive successfully assisted with migrating Achievement Awards Group to their new AWS environment.
The existing environment was restructured, and the new environments structured, according to AWS best practices, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
By building a Data Hub in the AWS Cape Town Region and consolidating their AWS accounts, Achievement Awards Group achieved improved operational efficiency and governance.
The implementation of Direct Connect/VPN ensured robust connectivity, supporting the SMB’s ongoing growth and innovation. This successful migration underscores the strategic value of adopting AWS best practices to drive digital transformation and achieve business objectives.
