WordPress Case Study: RGBC Website Rebuild

About the Client

The Really Great Brand Company (RGBC) is an owner-managed liquor company founded in 2000, which has grown from providing just two brands to expanding its portfolio to 25+ premier brands of champagnes, whiskies, bourbons, cognacs, vodka, and liqueurs.

The Challenge

With the growth of their brand, RGBC wanted to update their public-facing website to better reflect the premium quality of the alcohol brands they represent. To reach this goal, the RGBC marketing team approached Silicon Overdrive with their new design and asked us to custom build their website. Their original site had a much darker aesthetic which did not meet their requirements of a modern concept.

The Solution

After receiving the new mockups from RGBC, Silicon Overdrive proceeded with the building of the new site.

Some of the challenges of the project included, adding new functionality like product sliders on the brand pages and a randomised gallery to the home page of the site.

The gallery feature on the home page was an important aspect of the site. Currently, there are only six brands displayed, however, the brands are shuffled after every page load to ensure each of the 28 brands RGBC offers has a chance to be explored by the user. This would ensure all their brands have an equal chance to be represented on the home page when customers visit the website.
For the products, RGBC wanted to add them in a slider as some of the alcohol brands had more than three products available. After some time, we found the ideal plugin that provided such features, but it had some conflicts with existing plugins on the site. The slider wouldn’t react when clicking on the arrows and it didn’t want to resize correctly on mobile.

After hours of plugin conflict resolution, and eventually replacing the website’s base WordPress theme, we found an exceptional suite of tools that helped realise the vision for the individual pages.

The Outcome

Silicon Overdrive was able to build and launch the site within six weeks of the project starting. The RGBC website now has a new, modern look and feel, with an emphasis on all of their brands.
The new site is much easier on the eye with its white space and user-friendly design. It is optimised for mobile, ensuring customers can comfortably find their favourite brands on their smartphones.
Users can effortlessly browse their favourite brands with a simple product slider. Another great new feature allows customers to compare supplier pricing by using the various links available on each product without leaving the RGBC website.
