PAPE Funds – Microsoft 365 Secure Score Audit & Enhanced Device Security

About the Customer

PAPE Fund Managers (Pty) Ltd (“PAPE”) is a boutique private equity fund manager investing long-term equity risk capital into pedigreed South African mid-cap unlisted enterprises. PAPE has been raising and managing funds since 2006 and has finalized fundraising for PAPE Fund 3, a new private equity limited liability partnership fund capitalized at ZAR950m.

The Challenge

PAPE Funds was already using Microsoft 365, but found that they had a weakened security posture. The PAPE Funds teams approached Silicon Overdrive to perform a Microsoft 365 Secure Score Audit, and to remediate any identified high-risk security concerns.

PAPE Funds also required increased device security for distributed and remote workers.

The Solution

Silicon Overdrive met with PAPE’s decision-makers to discuss how we could assist them with reaching their goals. Silicon Overdrive architected a secure solution, which included licensing and deploying services such as Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure Active Directory.

The audit identified that device security could be improved, and Silicon Overdrive
recommended and then implemented Microsoft Intune as a solution. 

The Outcome

Following the deployment of their recommended solution, with the guidance and assistance of Silicon Overdrive’s Microsoft cloud team, PAPE deployed an enhanced security solution for their environment, which allowed them to gain the additional funding.

Silicon Overdrive also assisted with the implementation of security policies and the management of the cloud environment. And by using Intune, we could ensure the security and device management for non-cloud hardware.

Benefits of Intune

The software protects company-managed devices, allowing IT managers to control access to corporate data. There are a number of remote actions that can be accomplished through the Intune portal, from device lock, data encryption, passcode reset – or a full wipe for stolen or lost devices:

  • Intune also protects employee-owned devices and partitions work from personal data. Employees have the option to register their own devices and install company-approved applications from a self-service portal.
  • Intune protects 3rd party devices from Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung, and more, allowing management of mobile devices, as well as PCs and applications.
  • Intune also makes it easy to set and define policies via a single admin portal that allows configuration of rules and device management. From this hub, you can update security, scan computers for malicious software, track end-user activity, and more.
  • The Intune System Center Configuration Manager can control PCs, Macs, and Unix/Linux based servers and mobile devices, all in a centralized portal. It also lets you run reports to understand hardware and software configurations better.
  • Intune allows granular control of Office 365 and other applications, allowing IT admins to restrict access to email or OneDrive business documents if the user logs in from an unenrolled device.
  • An Intune subscription comes with Microsoft’s worldwide support network by phone and online.
