TB HIV Care – Migrating to Serverless SQL Environment

About the Customer

TB HIV Care is a large non-profit organization that puts integrated care at the heart of responding to TB, HIV, and other major diseases. With 2200 employees and Care and Treatment facilities across nine provinces, IT infrastructure was becoming obsolete.

The Challenge

Rapid organizational growth coupled with maintaining an on-premise application server that could not scale to growing needs of the organization meant that an alternative solution needed to be found.

Without compromising the secure storage of patient and other critical data, TB HIV Care required a solution that would be secure and well-architected.

The Solution

Silicon Overdrive met with TB HIV’s decision-makers to discuss how we could assist them with reaching their goals. Silicon Overdrive assisted them to receive $3500 Non-Profit usage credits and architected a secure solution, which included migrating their existing SQL databases from the on-premise SQL Server to a serverless SQL environment, where they can run SQL as a service instead.

This enabled them to dramatically reduce the cost of running SQL in Microsoft Azure as well as removing unnecessary Server maintenance from their schedules.

The Outcome

Following the migration of the SQL databases, with the guidance and assistance of Silicon Overdrive’s Microsoft Cloud team, TB HIV successfully migrated from their on-premise solution to Microsoft Azure.

They are able to avoid the unnecessary hardware and software costs of replacing their on-premise solutions, which they used to target other critical projects.

By moving the SQL Database to a serverless SQL environment, Silicon Overdrive ensured that TB HIV achieved the scalability required. Silicon Overdrive also assisted with the implementation of the security policies and the management of the cloud environment.
