MyRunway – Magento AWS Migration

About the Customer

MyRunway, an online fashion retailer was created to assist the online shopping society find fashion apparel with ease.

In partnership with over 500 high-end brands, MyRunway strives to give its members access to the latest fashion at discounted prices – all from a single online portal.

Members are kept updated on the latest offers via email and the MyRunway app as well as their social media platforms. This way members are seen as part of an exclusive society and never miss out on the latest fashion trends from their favorite brands!

The Challenge

MyRunway was challenged by existing legacy issues and downtime on the website. The Head of Technology, Anel Klynsmith’s vision was to create a frictionless online customer journey from search all through to checkout, powered by a system that is ‘always-on.’

Although MyRunway’s infrastructure was spread across various AWS accounts, it was not aligned to AWS Well-Architected Framework’s best practice.

The Silicon Overdrive team was seconded to advise on a solution that would prevent downtime and minimize business disruptions using the AWS Well-Architected Framework’s best practice.

The Solution

After various discovery workshops, Silicon Overdrive recommended that MyRunway redeploy its applications and services onto a single consolidated AWS account and adopt an architecture that offered high availability, scalability and improved security enhancements.

The Outcome

Silicon Overdrive redeployed the newly designed solution into one consolidated production account with monitoring, alerting and self-healing. The Trend Cloud Conformity results achieved high PCI-DSS, ISO 27001 and GDPR scores which followed AWS best practices.

With the rebranding from RunwaySale to MyRunway some of the previously utilized services on AWS were modernized for EC2 moved to ECS Fargate, thus reducing the overall operational overhead by removing the need to perform regular maintenance patching.

Amazon S3 made it possible to retain millions of images through the MyRunway website and application. The use of CloudFront ensured that there were no issues with performance or latency. With this improvement in their technical stack, MyRunway no longer experiences downtime and has high availability and performance even during peak seasonal sales periods and events like Secret Sale and Black Friday.
