On October 13, 2020, Microsoft officially ended support for Microsoft 2010. That means that if you are still using Office 2010 that there will be no more patches or security updates; leaving your business vulnerable to attack. Now is the perfect time to Upgrade to Microsoft 365!
What does end of life mean?
Contrary to what some people think, end-of-life (EoL) does not mean that your Office apps will stop working; it simply means that Microsoft will no longer be supporting the product.
In the case of Office 2010, that means that there will be no more patches or security updates. It also means that your Office suite might not work with future file formats.
While not being able to work with or open new file formats might prove to be a minor inconvenience, the lack of security updates poses a real security risk to your business.
“Why?”, you might ask yourself?
The more time that passes after a product reaches EoL, the higher the chance that malicious third-parties will have found a way to exploit any security vulnerabilities in Office 2010.
This could expose your files, your users, and even your customers’ data to significant cybersecurity risks. And since Microsoft will no longer support the apps, these risks will remain indefinitely.
All it takes is a single vulnerability to expose your critical data and have a devastating effect on your business.
So what can you do?
The simplest solution is to upgrade to Microsoft 365.
Many consider Microsoft Office 2010 a great suite of apps, but other than the security issues already mentioned, there haven’t been any new features added in the last decade.
What does Microsoft 365 Offer that Office 2010 does not?
Microsoft Teams is a business communication platform developed by Microsoft, as part of the Microsoft 365 family of products; offering workspace chat and videoconferencing, file storage, and application integration.
Updated Office Suite:
With Office 2010 all your files are stored on a single offline machine. That means that if you want to share a file, you would need to mail it to someone. With Microsoft 365, all that has changed. Your Office apps are now fully integrated with OneDrive, a cloud-based storage space which you can access from any computer or smart device, anywhere. That means that even if your machine is stolen, your work is still accessible to you from any other machine.
