Microsoft Case Study: Van Loveren Family Vineyards Migration to Microsoft 365

About the Customer

Van Loveren Family Vineyards is South Africa’s largest family-owned winery situated on the popular Route 62. 

Since 1937, Van Loveren Family Vineyards has grown to become South Africa’s leading family-owned winery boasting a palette of superb experiences, including wine tasting, food and wine pairings, hiking, garden tours, and mountain biking or bike rental, and bird watching. The Retief family has ensured their vineyard is well-known for its consistency, award-winning wines and innovation.

The Challenge

As a leading winery, Van Loveren Family Vineyards deals with numerous emails, day and night, to continue producing a quality product and maintaining their strong brands.

The winery needed to move from a Hosted Exchange, Xneelo, to Microsoft 365 as they often dealt with mail issues, interrupting their workflow. Their emails would often disappear, and it was not as secure as they needed them to be.

To ensure their emails are stable and security is up to par, Van Loveren decided to reach out to Silicon Overdrive, a leading IT Managed Service Provider, to provide a solution.

The Solution

Silicon Overdrive successfully migrated 76 users from a Hosted Exchange solution to Microsoft 365 within three days. Microsoft 365 provides real-time protection for Van Loveren’s emails against malware and spam.  Exchange Online allows Van Loveren to maintain email access during and after emergencies.

In addition, to the required Office apps, Microsoft OneDrive for Business was installed and Van Loveren’s individual OneDrive user profiles, each with 1TB of Cloud storage was set up.

Microsoft OneDrive allows Van Loveren’s staff access to their files from anywhere, at any time, freeing up device storage, securely storing files, and more. The cloud platform also permits the user to recover files easily from accidental deletions or cyberattacks.

Silicon Overdrive also spent additional hours troubleshooting compatibility issues with devices still running on Windows 7 and 8. Our team also spent extra time setting up users on Mac devices.

The Outcome

Silicon Overdrive’s Technical team completed a full migration for Van Loveren Family Vineyards to Microsoft 365 without disrupting their emails or workflow.

Van Loveren Family Vineyards now has a stable and secure mail environment. With their emails safely on Exchange Online, employees can access their mail from anywhere, on any device, at any time. Exchange also offers 99.9% uptime, ensuring emails are always up and running.

By migrating to Microsoft 365, Van Loveren has access to Microsoft’s latest suite of applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Collaboration between teams also saw an upgrade as they can now communicate and collaborate via Microsoft Teams and SharePoint Online.
